Beginning Your Journey
Questions You May Be Wondering
Healthcare is rarely simple because life rarely is.
Whether you're navigating a recent injury, years of chronic illness, a stressful season of life, or simply the feeling that something isn't quite right, you don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
Many people arrive with questions about appointments, costs, timing, what to expect, or whether this approach is the right fit for them. Others simply wonder whether anyone will finally understand the whole picture.
Wherever you find yourself, we'll begin there.
If your question isn't answered below, please don't hesitate to reach out. We'd much rather help you feel informed than leave you wondering.
-
Absolutely.
You don't need to know what treatment you need, what is causing your symptoms, or even how to explain what you're experiencing.
Our work begins with understanding your story and helping us both decide what the most meaningful next step might be.
-
No.
One of the most common misconceptions is that you need to decide which therapy is right before your first appointment.
You don't.
Your first visit is about understanding your health, exploring the bigger picture, and choosing a direction together.
The tools come after the understanding, not before.
-
Gather Wellness is built around partnership.
If you're looking for someone to listen carefully, think broadly, explain their reasoning, and work alongside you over time, you'll likely feel at home here.
If you're hoping for a quick fix without curiosity or participation, this approach may feel different than what you're expecting, and that's okay too.
The best therapeutic relationships are built on shared commitment, honesty, and trust.
Your Appointment
What happens during a first appointment?
Your first visit is focused on understanding.
Together we'll explore your health history, current concerns, lifestyle, nervous system, physical health, and the context surrounding your symptoms.
When appropriate, your visit may also include physical examination, hands-on assessment, acupuncture, bodywork, or the beginning of treatment.
Every appointment is individualized because every person is.
-
Wear whatever allows you to feel comfortable.
If a physical examination or hands-on treatment is appropriate, we'll explain everything beforehand and work with clothing or draping that maintains your comfort, dignity, and choice throughout the appointment.
-
Often, yes.
If having a partner, family member, or support person present helps you feel more comfortable, please let us know. Together we'll determine what feels most supportive for your visit while respecting your privacy and therapeutic space.
-
You're certainly not the first.
Sometimes meaningful conversations or moments of understanding bring emotion to the surface.
There is no expectation that you hold everything together.
Emotion isn't viewed as a problem to solve or something to apologize for.
We'll simply make room for it.
Your Health
My health feels messy and complicated. Can you still help?
This may be one of the best reasons to come.
Many people arrive after years of trying to fit complex experiences into simple explanations.
Your story doesn't need to be tidy.
Sometimes there are many contributing pieces.
Sometimes there aren't.
Our job is not to rush toward answers but to help organize the picture, identify meaningful patterns, and decide what deserves attention first.
Healing doesn't require pretending life is simple.
-
Normal test results don't automatically mean your experience isn't real.
Sometimes they tell us something important.
Sometimes they simply tell us where we need to keep asking thoughtful questions.
Part of our work is understanding the difference between "nothing serious was found" and "nothing is happening."
-
Many of our patients have.
We value the care you've already received and recognize that no one practitioner has every answer.
Gather Wellness works best when healthcare becomes collaborative rather than competitive.
When appropriate, we're happy to work alongside your family physician, specialists, counsellors, physiotherapists, massage therapists, or other members of your healthcare team.
Our shared goal is your health, not ownership of your care.
-
Every person is different, but we commonly support people experiencing:
Chronic pain and injury recovery
Digestive concerns
Hormonal and metabolic health
Stress, burnout, and nervous system regulation
Fatigue and low energy
Women's health throughout the lifespan
Autoimmune and inflammatory conditions
Whole-body health optimization and prevention
If you're unsure whether your concern fits, please reach out. We're happy to help you decide whether Gather is the right place to begin.
-
Not at all.
Some people come because they are navigating complex health conditions.
Others simply want to build resilience, understand their bodies more deeply, prevent future illness, or optimize their health before problems arise.
Both are welcome.
-
There is no threshold you need to meet.
Whether you're managing a diagnosis, recovering from an injury, preparing for pregnancy, navigating burnout, or simply sensing that something isn't quite right, you're welcome here.
Practical Information
Sometimes the most practical way to go about it is to ask us directly!
-
At this time, Gather Wellness does not offer direct billing.
Payment is made at the time of your appointment, and you'll receive a receipt that can be submitted to your extended health insurance provider for reimbursement.
Many employer-sponsored benefit plans include coverage for naturopathic medicine. We encourage you to review your individual plan or speak with your benefits provider to understand your available coverage.
-
Yes.
A limited number of reduced-fee appointments are reserved for individuals experiencing financial barriers to care.
These spaces are intentionally limited so they remain sustainable.
If cost is preventing you from accessing care, please reach out. We'll do our best to explore whether a suitable option is available.

Progress isn't always measured by one symptom disappearing.
Sometimes it looks like:
recovering more quickly
sleeping more deeply
experiencing fewer flare-ups
feeling calmer under stress
understanding your body more clearly
recognizing patterns earlier
having greater confidence in caring for yourself
Healing often unfolds in ways that are both measurable and meaningful.
Working Together
A Good Fit Goes Both Ways
The strongest therapeutic relationships are built on mutual trust, openness, curiosity, and a shared commitment to learning.
You don't need to have all the answers.
You don't need to be perfect.
You don't need to change everything overnight.
You simply need to be willing to notice, ask questions, share honestly, and take the next meaningful step.
We'll bring our clinical knowledge, experience, full attention, and genuine curiosity.
We ask only that you bring yourself.
Together, we'll discover what your health has been trying to tell us.
-
There isn't one answer for everyone.
A recent injury or acute concern may improve with a short series of focused visits.
Long-standing patterns involving pain, digestion, hormones, nervous system regulation, autoimmune concerns, or preventative health often benefit from a more gradual process.
We'll discuss what seems realistic, what we're working toward, and reassess together as your care evolves.
-
You'll receive an immediate confirmation through Jane.
You'll also receive information about preparing for your visit, including intake forms and any instructions relevant to your appointment.
If more than two business days have passed and you haven't heard from us when you expected to, please reach out again. Technology occasionally misdirects a message, and we'd always rather hear from you twice than have you wondering.
-
Life isn't perfect.
Healthcare doesn't need to be either.
Our work isn't about achieving perfection or earning gold stars.
It's about paying attention, learning together, and adjusting as life unfolds.
Every appointment becomes another opportunity to understand what worked, what didn't, and what we might try next.

One Final Thought
What if neither of us has the answer yet?
Sometimes the answer becomes clear quickly.
Sometimes it unfolds over time.
Neither uncertainty nor complexity means we stop paying attention.
We remain curious.
We continue asking thoughtful questions.
We reassess.
We collaborate.
We learn.
We adapt.
Healing isn't always about finding the perfect answer immediately.
Often, it's about building a relationship that allows the right questions to emerge.
Wherever you are in your journey, you're welcome to begin exactly there.
